Thanksgiving Activities Wish List

15 more days until Thanksgiving!

And I have so much to be thankful for this year. Always at the top of my list are: family, the ability to learn alongside my kids every single day, to give them freedom to learn and do those things they are interested in and passionate about, strength to battle health issues, and a warm and safe home.

I feel so incredibly blessed. So many people in the world are struggling right now.

It made me feel a little guilty working with the kids on this wish list. Just the fact that we have the option to consider doing most of these things is incredible. Thank you God!

Besides checking out the ideas below, you might also want to check out the post I wrote last year where I share 15 more Thanksgiving ideas.

*By the way, I’m also very, very thankful to you for being a reader of this blog. Thank you!

1. Thanksgiving Chain – We started this chain on November 1st. Instead of making a chain where we pull off a chain each day to countdown to Thanksgiving, we decided to add a chain link each day until the 22nd.  On each chain link – made from a one inch strip of brown or orange construction paper- we write down one thing we are thankful for. Then we tape the link to the other links in the chain. We’ll place the chain on the table during Thanksgiving dinner.

2. Books to read: Katie Saves Thanksgiving, Thanksgiving Thief (Nancy Drew Clue Crew), Thanksgiving on Plymouth Plantation, Turkey Monster Thanksgiving, The Thanksgiving Door, Thanksgiving is Here!, Thanksgiving at the Tappletons, The Night before Thanksgiving, Squanto and the Miracle of Thanksgiving, The First Thanksgiving, ‘Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving, A Turkey for Thanksgiving, It’s Thanksgiving, Pardon that Turkey, Pilgrims and Indian Corn: the story of Thanksgiving symbols, Mayflower Treasure Hunt, Frankenturkey II

3. DVS to watch: Learn our History: The Mayflower and the first Thanksgiving, Garfield Thanksgiving, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, Winnie the Pooh: Seasons of Giving, Alvin and the Chipmunks: Alvin’s Thanksgiving Celebration, Molly’s Pilgrim, Thanksgiving Stories, William Bradford: The First Thanksgiving, Thank you Sarah: The Woman Who Saved Thanksgiving, Squanto: a warrior’s tale, Stories for Thanksgiving (Scholastic)

4. Create a Thanksgiving Dinner on a $40 budget Activity

5. Make Oreo Turkeys and Cookie Pilgrim hats for after Thanksgiving dinner.

6. Make this “Handy” Thanksgiving Wreath to hang on the door.

7. Play Roll a Turkey game. Roll a die to complete a drawing of a turkey. First one to finish his or her drawing is a winner.

8. Play “Sail on the Mayflower” game.

9. Conduct an extracting plastic from milk and bending turkey bones experiements

10. Read some Thanksgiving poems during lunch. Here’s a few we found so far: https://www.theholidayzone.com/thanks/poems.html , https://www.thanksgiving-day.org/thanksgiving-day-poems.html#poem11, and https://www.apples4theteacher.com/holidays/thanksgiving/poems-rhymes/ .
