Mommy, I Want to Go to School

“Mommy, I want to go to school.” Alexa made this statement right before we were going into the grocery store about a month ago. Now, I know that most moms would be thrilled with this statement. They want their kids to be excited about school and look forward to going. But we’re an interest-led learning…

Summer’s Not Over!

It’s only the first week of September and already there’s a Halloween store that’s going up? It’s not even the end…

Talking with Jessica @Teachable Moments about Intentional Strewing & Layered Learning

Jessica always thought about homeschooling but never did anything about it until her youngest daughter, Lilah, age 8, asked to come home for her learning.  Her other daughter, Grace, age 10, remained in school where she was…

2 Homeschooling Documentaries Looking to Make a Difference in 2012

I don’t know about you, but I love watching documentaries. I wasn’t always that way. Growing up it was all about dramas and TV shows.   But as I became an older teen and then went to film school, I discovered how wonderful documentaries can be. I began to watch all types of documentaries –…

The Gift Schoolchildren Will Never Receive

Christmas is only 39 days away. I don’t know why it always seems to sneak up on me so fast, but it does. There’s always a hundred different things I want to do each year; I always have grand plans, but most of them never take place. The one thing I always find time for…

Interest-led Learning in the Mainstream-September 2011

When children’s interests and imagination are captured, it provides the intrinsic motivation for them to learn more, create meaningful, personal goals and retain a…
